Born in Flensburg, northern Germany, Dorothea Röschmann was a member of the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin ensemble for many years and in 2017 was awarded the title of Kammersängerin. She has been a frequent guest at the Salzburg Festival since 1995 and works regularly at the Wiener Staatsoper, Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Semperoper Dresden, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and in Berlin. Renowned as a distinguished Mozartian, she has recently ventured into pastures new with role debuts as Ariadne in Ariadne auf Naxos (R. Strauss), Elisabeth in Tannhäuser (Wagner) and the major role in Alceste (Gluck). A renowned recitalist, she was awarded a Grammy in 2017 for her solo recital CD with pianist Mitsuko Uchida. Dorothea Röschmann lives with her family in Hamburg.
