Born in Flensburg, Germany, Dorothea Röschmann studied in Hamburg, New York, and London before debuting as Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro at the 1995 Salzburg Festival. She was a longtime member of the Berlin State Opera ensemble, which in 2017 awarded her the honorary title “Kammersängerin.” She has performed as the countess in The Marriage of Figaro, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Pamina in The Magic Flute, and in many other roles at the world’s leading opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, La Scala, and Vienna State Opera. She recently performed in Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and Los Angeles Philharmonic, gave recitals at Wigmore Hall, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, and Vienna Concert Hall, and participated at the Edinburgh, Munich, and Schwarzenberg Festivals. Röschmann received the 2017 Grammy Award for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album for Schumann & Berg Songs with Mitsuko Uchida.
