Nora Chastain

American-born Nora Chastain studied at the Cincinnati Conservatory, the Juilliard School with Dorothy DeLay, and the International Menuhin Music Academy with Alberto Lysy, Ana Chumachenco, and Sir Yehudi Menuhin. She made her debut in Berlin at age sixteen. She has been a soloist with the San Francisco Symphony, Paris Orchestra, Basel Chamber Orchestra, and MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra under Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Sebastian Weigle, Michael Sanderling, David Stern, and Marc Tardue. Chastain is a founding member of the Menuhin Festival Piano Quartet and Trio Kreisleriana, and has appeared at the Schleswig-Holstein, Mozartfest Würzburg, and Gstaad Menuhin Festivals with Joshua Bell, Sharon Kam, Mihaela Martin, and others. Her recording of Teodoro Valcárcel’s Concierto Indio was nominated for a Grammy Award. She is Professor of Violin at the Berlin University of the Arts, gives masterclasses around the world, and serves on the juries of international violin competitions.
