Thomas E. Bauer

Thomas E. Bauer received his early training at the legendary Regensburg Domspatzen (Cathedral Choir), continuing his vocal studies at the Munich University of Music and Theatre. He has performed with leading orchestras including the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Bernard Haitink, the Concentus Musicus under Nikolaus Harnoncourt, the Filarmonica della Scala under Zubin Mehta, the Leipzig Gewandhaus under Herbert Blomstedt, Riccardo Chailly and Philippe Herreweghe, and the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington DC. Bauer appeared in Schubert’s Lazarus at the Salzburg Festival, and in Schoenberg’s Jacobsleiter at the Berlin Philharmonie, and sang the world première of Jorg Widmann’s oratorio ARCHE conducted by Kent Nagano for the inauguration of Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie Hall. He has sung several world premières and was awarded the Schneider-Schott Music Prize. His many CDs have received prestigious awards, including for Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and Beethoven’s Christus am Ölberge with Herreweghe conducting the Ghent Collegium Vocale and Orchestre des Champs-Elysée.
