Ivan Karizna has won numerous prizes, including at the Tchaikovsky and Queen Elisabeth Competitions. This past season, he performed with the Netherlands Philharmonic, made his debut with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, toured Australia with the Sydney, Adelaide, Queensland, and West Australian Symphony Orchestras, and made appearances with The Hague Residence Orchestra, Finland’s Kuopio Symphony, and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Other recent highlights include a tour with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and performances with the Rotterdam Philharmonic, Dresden Philharmonic, and Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. Karizna has collaborated with Joseph Swensen and Alan Gilbert at the La Jolla Chamber Music Festival, Gidon Kremer, Sir András Schiff, Renaud Capuçon, and Christian Tetzlaff. Born into a musical family in Minsk, he studied at the Paris Conservatory and the Kronberg Academy. He plays a c. 1760 Tassini cello previously played by Paul Tortelier on generous loan from the Stretton Society.
