Chinese cellist Jing Zhao won 1st Prize at the ARD International Competition (Munich 2005), and the Exxon Mobil Music Award (Japan 2009). She studied under David Geringas at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik, and with Yo-Yo Ma and Rostropovich. She has performed under conductors including Ozawa, Maazel, Muti and Pletnev with orchestras such as the NHK Symphony, Beijing Symphony, Bayerische Rundfunk, Berlin Symphony, Philharmonica della Scala and Sydney Symphony orchestras. Chamber music partners include Argerich, Bashkirova, Pahud, Kozhukhin, Levit, Vengerov and Pinnock. Jing Zhao is co-Artistic Director of the Pietrasanta in Concerto Music Festival in Italy and Artist-in-Residence at the Crans-Montana Classics in Switzerland; festival appearances include Lugano, Zagreb, Bad Kissingen, Istanbul, and Argerich’s Beppu Festival. Recordings include 5 CDs for Victor Entertainment (Japan) and with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Tan Dun. Jing currently plays on a Matteo Goffriller Cello(1711) on generous loan to her from a private Foundation.
