Frans Helmerson

Swedish cellist Frans Helmerson studied in Göteborg, Rome and London, also benefiting from the guidance and support of Mstislav Rostropovich. He has performed with conductors including Ozawa, Davis, Kurt Sanderling, Neeme Järvi, Svetlanov, Salonen, de Burgos and Rostropovich. He has toured with major orchestras in Europe, USA, South America, Asia and Australia. Helmerson’s love of chamber music led him to take up the position of Artistic Director of the Korsholm Festival in Finland from 1994-2001, and he frequently appears at international festivals. His Dvořák Concerto recording for the BIS label was hailed by critics as one of the finest recordings of the work and his recording of the Shostakovich Cello Concerti for Chandos received global acclaim from music critics. Helmerson held a professorship at the Cologne Music Academy and similar positions in Stockholm and Madrid. He currently teaches at the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin and the Kronberg Academy.
