Dietrich Henschel’s international career was launched at the Opéra National de Lyon, with his performance in Busoni’s Doktor Faust for which he was awarded with a Grammy. ‘His ability to get below the surface of a song and right into its soul is extraordinary’ (The Herald, Scotland). He has sung at major opera houses throughout Europe in leading roles such as Figaro in Rossini’s Barber of Seville, Monteverdi’s Ulisse and Orfeo, Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Alban Berg’s Wozzek, Golaud in Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande. Nick Shadow in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress, Schönberg’s Moses und Aron, and Henze’s Prince of Homburg. Contemporary composers such as Luciano Berio, Péter Eötvös, Detlev Glanert, Chaya Czernowin have dedicated leading parts in their works to Henschel. He has collaborated with conductors such as Chailly, Jurovsky, Byshkov, Kyril Petrenko and Zubin Mehta.
