Christoph Poppen is a conductor, solo violinist, chamber musician and teacher. He is Music Director of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Principal Conductor of the Kölner Kammerorchester, Artistic Director of the Marvão International Music Festival, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Israel Chamber Orchestra. He has been Guest Conductor with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Staatskapelle Dresden, Bamberger Symphoniker and many other orchestras, and enjoys longstanding artistic relationships with orchestras including the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Residentie Orkest and Netherlands Philharmonic. Poppen has been a Professor of Violin and Chamber Music at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold and the Hochschule für Musik ‘Hanns Eisler’ Berlin, where he served as President from 1996-2000. From 2001-2005, he was Artistic Director of the ARD International Music Competition. Since 2003, he has been Professor of Violin and Chamber Music at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München.
