Alexander Melnikov

Alexander Melnikov graduated from the Moscow Conservatory under Lev Naumov. He has been awarded numerous prizes, including at the International Robert Schumann Competition and the Queen Elisabeth Competition. He has performed as a soloist with the Koninklijk Concertgebouw Orkest Amsterdam, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Philadelphia Orchestra, and many other orchestras under conductors including Mikhail Pletnev, Teodor Currentzis and Charles Dutoit. He regularly performs with distinguished period ensembles. His chamber music partners include Isabelle Faust, Andreas Staier and Jean-Guihen Queyras. Melnikov and Faust’s recording of the complete Beethoven violin sonatas won a Gramophone Award and was nominated for a Grammy. His recording of Shostakovich’s Preludes and Fugues received a BBC Music Magazine Award, which named it one of the ‘50 Greatest Recordings of All Time.’ During the 2024/25 season, Melnikov is in residency at the Konzerthaus Wien, and is performing solo recitals in Berlin, Cologne, Lyon, Prague, Madrid and Tokyo.
