Hailed as one of today’s most innovative musicians, American baritone Thomas Hampson has received numerous honours. His operatic repertoire of more than 80 roles, and his discography of over 170 albums, have gained awards such as the Grammy, Edison, and Grand Prix du Disque. Hampson’s 2023/24 season included Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast with Klaus Mäkelä and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and joining the Dallas Symphony Orchestra on their European Tour. Further highlights include Weill’s Four Walt Whitman Songs with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, and a semi-staged production he directed of Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte. Last season he returned to opera, starring as Richard Nixon in Nixon in China at L’Opéra de Paris, under Gustavo Dudamel. He is founder of the Hampsong Foundation, which uses the art of song to promote intercultural dialogue and understanding. Additionally, he serves as an Advisor for Opera for Peace.
