Sara Ferrández was born in Madrid in 1995 into a family of musicians. She started playing viola at age 3, before attending the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofia in Madrid. She continued her studies under Tabea Zimmermann in the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, obtaining her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. She is currently studying at the Kronberg Academy. Highlights for the upcoming season include her debut with the RTVE Symphony Orchestra, Madrid and performances with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra. Chamber music international festivals include Verbier, Classiche Forme, Arezzo and Utrecht, collaborating with artists including Janine Jansen, Amihai Grosz, Vilde Frang and Daishin Kashimoto. Ferrández is a member of the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic and plays with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra under Daniel Barenboim. She plays a David Tecchler viola (1730) and a Nicolas Léonard Tourte bow, both generously loaned by the Stretton Society.
