Kathrin Rabus studied in Basel with Sandor Zöldy, in Tel Aviv with Piotr Bondarenko, in New York with Dorothy DeLay, and in masterclasses with Henryk Szeryng, Nathan Milstein and Gidon Kremer. In 1979 she won the Young Soloists Award (Germany) and in 1987 the Tibor Varga Violin Competition. In 1988 she was appointed Concertmaster of the NDR Philharmonic Orchestra (Germany). She is violinist of the Kandinsky String Trio which won the ECHO prize for chamber music. She participates in leading festivals including Schleswig-Holstein, Rheingau, Lockenhaus, Kuhmo and Kurashiki (Japan), and is a member of András Schiff’s ‘Capella Andrea Barca’. She has a special interest in contemporary music and gave the premiere performance and made the first recording of Silenzio by Sofia Gubaidulina and of Daniel Schnyder’s Violin Concerto under Kristjan Järvi (Enja Records). She is a faculty member of the Hannover Hochschule für Musik.
