Rainer Honeck

Rainer Honeck joined the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 1981, advancing to the position of Concertmaster of the Opera Orchestra in 1984, and of the Philharmonic Orchestra in 1992.  As a soloist he has performed with orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, London Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony and Mariinsky Theatre orchestras, under renowned conductors including Herbert Blomstedt, Semyon Bychkov, Ádám Fischer, Daniele Gatti, Valery Gergiev, Daniel Harding, Manfred Honeck, Mariss Jansons, Riccardo Muti, Kyrill Petrenko and Michael Tilson Thomas. He is a founding member and leader of the Wiener Virtuosen and the Vienna String Soloists, and has conducted orchestras including the Kioi Chamber Orchestra Tokyo, Nagoya Philharmonic, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Mariinsky Orchestra St. Petersburg, and the Malmö Symphony Orchestra. Rainer Honeck plays the Chaconne Stradivarius violin (1725), on loan from the Austrian National Bank.
