A German-born cellist of Peruvian-Uruguayan descent, Claudio Bohórquez studied under Boris Pergamenschikow, winning prizes at the Tchaikovsky Youth Competition (Moscow), Rostropovich Competition (Paris) and International Pablo Casals Competition (2000). Since 2003 he has been teaching in Germany (Berlin and Stuttgart). He has performed with leading orchestras in Europe, Asia and the USA, under conductors such as Eschenbach, Marriner, Penderecki, Sokhiev and Honeck. A passionate chamber musician, he has appeared with leading artists at festivals throughout the world. Together with painter Klaus-Peter Kirchner he developed the installation project ‘Raum für Pablo Casals’ in homage to the great cellist and was part of the ECHO winning album ‘Four Seasons’ under the Deutsche Grammophon label. With his duo partner Péter Nagy, he recently released a recording of the Brahms sonatas, under the Berlin Classics label.
