Alexander Knyazev

A cellist and organist, Alexander Knyazev studied cello in Moscow under Fedorchenko, and organ in Nizhny Novgorod under Kozlova. Winner of several prestigious awards, including the Tchaikovsky (Moscow), UNISA (South Africa) and Cassado (Florence) competitions, he has played cello concertos with major orchestras under leading conductors in Europe, USA, South America, Australia and Asia. In chamber music he collaborates with many distinguished musicians, and frequently plays in a piano trio with Boris Berezovsky and Dmitri Makhtin which was awarded the ECHO Klassik prize (2005) for their recording of Shostakovich and Rachmaninoff. In 2007 he received another ECHO award for his CD recording of Chopin and Rachmaninoff with Nikolai Lugansky. From 1995-2005 Knyazev was a professor at the Moscow Conservatory. He currently gives masterclasses in France, Germany, Spain and South Korea. As an organist he performs in Russia and abroad.
