Emanuele Silvestri, currently Principal Cello of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, was also recently appointed Principal Cello of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Before moving to Israel he was for 8 years Principal Cello at the La Fenice Orchestra (Venice) where he was co-founder of the La Fenice String Quartet, and participated in the Biennale di Venezia Festival. In Israel he joined the Israel String Quartet. He served as Principal Cello of the Orchestra Verdi di Milano, the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, the Orchestra Sinfonica della RAI di Torino and La Scala di Milano orchestras. He has appeared as soloist with many leading orchestras including the IPO, La Scala di Milano, Basel Symphony and Periggi Musicali di Milano, under the direction of Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Chailly, Christopher Hogwood, Diego Matheuz and Gustavo Dudamel. He was awarded first prizes in Italy and abroad in cello competitions, and second prize at the Domnik International Cello Competition (Stuttgart 1996).
