Gérard Caussé

Gérard Caussé studied at the Paris Conservatoire. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras under Gardiner, Nagano and Minkowski, and has performed in leading chamber ensembles with such musicians as Kremer, Sitkovetsky, Maisky, Capuçon, Angelich and others. Former Artistic Director of the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra, and co-founder of the Salamanca Chamber Foundation, Causséis currently Professor of Viola at the Paris Conservatoire and the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofia in Madrid. Known for his championship of contemporary music, Caussé was co-founder together with Pierre Boulez of the Ensemble Intercontemporain and has commissioned works for viola from major contemporary composers. His discography of more than sixty recordings with major labels has met with wide acclaim. He plays a viola from 1560 made by Gasparo da Salò.
