Yigal Kaminka – oboe

Born in 1983, Yigal Kaminka served in the IDF’s programme for ‘Outstanding Musicians’. He graduated from his music studies with three degrees in recorder and oboe, specialising in baroque oboe. He has won scholarships from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, German DAAD foundation, Stark Foundation and others. Among his many awards are 1st Prize in all three categories in the 2009 Aviv competition. He was a founding member of the international sextet ‘Berlin Counterpoint’, appearing with the group at festivals in Europe and South America. He has played as soloist and as First Oboe with leading orchestras including the Budapest Festival, Heidelberg Symphony, West-Eastern Divan, Israel Philharmonic and Jerusalem Symphony orchestras. In 2010 he founded the startup company JoyTunes, devoted to developing new technologies and computer games to help children learn musical instruments. Over 8 million users in 110 countries use the programme, which gained a special UN award.
