Tal Balshai – Piano

Tal Balshai was born in Jerusalem in 1969 and studied classical and jazz piano in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Berlin and New York. Since 1992 he has lived and worked in Berlin. As an accompanist, he has performed at the Salzburg Festival, the Staatsoper Berlin and Hamburg, La Scala Milan, and other prestigious European venues. His special field of interest is Jewish artists who were driven out of Germany in the 1930s. Together with Angela Denoke he compiled an evening ‘From Babelsberg to Beverly Hills’ with compositions by Berlin film composers of the 1920s and 1930s, and a Kurt Weill programme ‘Two Lives to Live’. With singer/actress Dagmar Manzel he compiled the programme ‘Irgendwo auf der Welt’, comprising German film hits by Werner Richard Heymann, and an evening dedicated to the songs of Hanns Eisler. Tal Balshai’s work as pianist and composer has appeared on several CDs.
