Sunwook Kim – piano

Korean-born Sunwook Kim began studying piano aged 3 and gave his debut recital aged 10. Graduating from the Korean National University, he continued at the Royal Academy of Music, London. In 2006 he won the Leeds International Piano Competition, the youngest winner for 40 years, and the first Asian winner. Other awards include the 2004 Ettlingen Competition, 1st Prize, (Germany) and the 2005 Clara Haskil Competition (Switzerland). He has appeared as soloist with orchestras including the London Symphony, Concertgebouw, Berlin Radio, Philharmonia and London Philharmonic orchestras, under conductors such as Gardiner, Chung, Janowski and Elder. He made his BBC Proms debut in 2014 with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. He has given recitals at the Pleyel and Philharmonie Halls (Paris) and the Wigmore and Queen Elizabeth Halls (London), and appeared in Buenos Aires, Tokyo, Osaka, Brussels and Bonn. In Seoul he performed the complete cycle of Beethoven piano sonatas.
