Renaud Capuçon – Violin

Born in Chambéry 1976, Renaud Capuçon studied in Paris with Gérard Poulet and Veda Reynolds, and later with Thomas Brandis and Isaac Stern. He was concertmaster of the Mahler Youth Orchestra under Claudio Abbado. Awards received include ‘Rising Star’(2000), ‘New Talent of the Year’ (2000), ‘Instrumental Soloist of the Year’ (2005), ‘Enesco Prize’ (2006), ‘Chevalier dans l’Ordre National du Mérite’ (2011), and the ‘Légion d’honneur’ from the French government. He has performed as soloist with leading orchestras and conductors of Europe, America and Asia. A passionate chamber musician his partners have included Argerich, Ma, Grimaud, Angelich, Kadouche, Bronfman, Chung, Bashmet, Maisky and Caussé. He appears regularly at prestigious festivals including Salzburg, Rheinghau, Lucerne, Gstaad, Menton, Verbier, Hollywood Bowl, Tanglewood and La Roque d’Anthéron. He is musical director of the Aix-en-Provence Easter Festival, and the Gstaad Winter Festival. Recordings on the Erato label include Beethoven sonatas cycle with Frank Braley.
