Renaud Capuçon

Born in Chambéry in 1976, Renaud Capuçon studied in Paris with Gérard Poulet and Veda Reynolds, and later with Thomas Brandis and Isaac Stern. He was Concertmaster of the Mahler Youth Orchestra under Claudio Abbado. Awards received include ‘Rising Star’ (2000), ‘Enesco Prize’ (2006) and the ‘Légion d’honneur’ from the French government. He has performed as soloist with leading orchestras and conductors in Europe, America and Asia. A passionate chamber musician, Capuçon’s partners have included Argerich, Ma, Bronfman, Bashmet, Maisky and Caussé. He appears regularly at festivals including Salzburg, Lucerne, Gstaad, Verbier and Tanglewood. He is Musical Director of the Aix-en-Provence Easter Festival, the Gstaad Winter Festival and Artistic Director of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne. Recordings include ‘Tabula Rasa’ (2021) devoted to the music of Arvo Pärt and an extensive discography with Erato/Warner Classics. He plays the Guarneri del Gesù ‘Panette’ (1737), which belonged to Isaac Stern.
