Rainer Honeck – Violin
Rainer Honeck studied in Vienna with Prof. Alfred Staar. In 1981 he joined the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. He was appointed Concertmaster of the Vienna Opera Orchestra in 1984, and of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 1992. He has performed as soloist with the Vienna Philharmonic under Mariss Jansons, Daniele Gatti and Riccardo Muti, and with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo. He is an active chamber musician, most recently as leader of the Vienna-Berlin Chamber Orchestra and counts among his chamber music partners Yuri Bashmet and Yefim Bronfman. As a conductor he has led the Nagoya Philharmonic, the Kioi Sinfonietta and the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony orchestras in Japan, the Malmö Symphony Orchestra in Sweden and the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra in St. Petersburg. Rainer Honeck plays the ‘ex-Hammerle’ 1709 Stradivarius violin, on loan from the Austrian National Bank.
