Project Description

Rainer Honeck – Violin

Born in 1961, Rainer Honeck joined the Vienna State Opera and Vienna Philharmonic orchestras as first violinist in 1981, becoming concertmaster in 1991. He has performed as a soloist with the Vienna Philharmonic, London Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, and Mariinsky Theatre orchestras under renowned conductors such as Blomstedt, Bychkov, Fischer, Gatti, Gergiev, Harding, M. Honeck, Jansons, Muti, Estrada, Petrenko and Tilson Thomas. Leading an orchestra as concertmaster brought him naturally to conducting. He has conducted the Kioi Chamber(Tokyo), Nagoya Philharmonic, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony, Malmö Symphony, Mariinsky Theatre Symphony and the Haydn Philharmonie orchestras. His performances in chamber music have been widely recorded for radio television and CD productions. Rainer Honeck plays the 1725 ‘Chaconne’ Stradivarius violin, generously on loan from the Austrian National Bank.
