Michael Barenboim – Violin

Michael Barenboim studied in Germany at the Rostock Music Academy under Axel Wilczok, and studied philosophy at the Paris Sorbonne. His long-time collaboration with the late Pierre Boulez culminated with performances of Boulez’s works at the Berlin Philharmonie, London Barbican Centre, Paris Opera and Salzburg Festival celebrating the composer’s 90th birthday. He played with the Boulez Ensemble in Carnegie Hall, Berlin and Vienna, and recently recorded Anthèmes 1 and 2 by Boulez. Recent concerts included debuts with the Cologne Gürzenich, BBC Philharmonic, Luxembourg Philharmonic and returns to the Berlin Comic Opera, Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie and Nice Philharmonic orchestras. In chamber music he appears at festivals including Rheingau, Beethoven (Bonn), Lucerne and Verbier. He performs in a trio with pianist Elena Bashkirova and cellist Julian Steckel and serves as concertmaster with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra.
