Matthias Goerne – Tenor
German-born Matthias Goerne studied with Hans-Joachim Beyer, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. He collaborates with leading orchestras, conductors and pianists, and appears at renowned festivals and concert halls world-wide. Following his 1997 Salzburg Festival debut as Papageno, he has appeared on opera stages including Covent Garden, Teatro Real (Madrid), Paris National Opera, Vienna State and the Metropolitan Opera (New York). His roles range from Wolfram (Tannhäuser), Amfortas (Parsifal) and Kurwenal (Tristan und Isolde) to the title roles in Alban Berg’s Wozzeck, Bartók‘s Bluebeard’s Castle and Hindemith’s Mathis der Maler. His award-winning recordings include a 12-CD set of Schubert songs for Harmonia Mundi, and an album with the Quatuor Ebène recently released by Warner Music. This season’s highlights include recitals at London’s Wigmore Hall, the Paris Philharmonie, San Francisco Opera, Sydney Festival, and the Vienna Festwochen, and performances with the Concertgebouw and New York Philharmonic Orchestras.
