Martin Helmchen – Piano
Martin Helmchen studied under Arieh Vardi, Alfred Brendel, William Grant Naboré and Galina Iwanzowa. Awards include the Clara Haskil Competition (2001), the Borletto-Buitoni Trust Fellowship (2005), and the Credit Suisse Young Artist (2006) which led to his debut with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under Gergiev at the Lucerne Festival. From 2005 to 2007 he was a soloist with the BBC New Generation Artists programme. Recent debuts include orchestral appearances with the Berlin Philharmonic under Blomstedt, the London Philharmonic under Jurowski, and the New York Philharmonic and Boston Symphony both under Dohnányi. His passion for chamber music was inspired by his collaboration with the late cellist Boris Pergamenchikov. He is currently Associate Professor of chamber music at the Kronberg Academy. This season he appears with his wife, cellist Marie-Elisabeth Hecker, and other artists, in chamber music concerts across Europe, and in performances in the USA with leading orchestras.
