Marie-Elisabeth Hecker – Cello
After winning both First Prize and two special prizes at the Rostropovich Competition in 2005, Hecker has become one of the most sought-after soloists and chamber musicians of the generation. She studied with Peter Bruns and Heinrich Schiff amongst others. She was the recipient of Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award in 2009 and is supported by the Kronberg academy. As a dedicated chamber musician, she has appeared with her husband Martin Helmchen, Gabriele Carcano, Alina Ibragimova, Alexander Lonquich and Carolin Widmann to name but a few. In co-operation with Music Road Rwanda she regularly travels to Rwanda in order to support a local music school with concerts and educational projects. Marie-Elisabeth Hecker plays on a Luigi Bajoni cello of 1864.
