Louis Lortie – piano
Louis Lortie studied in Montreal with Yvonne Hubert (a pupil of Cortot), in Vienna with Beethoven specialist Dieter Weber, and with Schnabel disciple Leon Fleisher. In 1984 he won First Prize in the Busoni Competition, and was also a prizewinner at the Leeds Piano Competition. He recently appeared with the Chicago Symphony, Sidney Symphony, São Paolo Symphony, London Royal Philharmonic and Beethoven Bonn orchestras. He has performed under leading conductors including Chailly, Masur, Ozawa, Dutoit, Järvi, Davis, Krivine, Elder and Orozco-Estrada. Upcoming engagements include the Boston Symphony, Philadelphia, Atlanta Symphony, Montreal Symphony, Dresden Philharmonic, St. Louis Symphony, and recitals in Berlin, Florence, São Paulo, London’s Wigmore Hall, the Bergen Festival and the Raiding Liszt Festival. He has made numerous recordings for the Chandos label, including the complete Beethoven sonatas, and Liszt’s Années de Pèlerinage, named one of the best recordings by the New Yorker Magazine.
