Lahav Shani – piano

Lahav Shani, born 1989 in Tel Aviv, studied piano with Hannah Shalgi and Arie Vardi, continuing at the Hanns Eisler School of Music, Berlin, in conducting with Christian Ehwald and piano with Fabio Bidini. Shani’s conducting career was launched when he won 1st Prize at the 2013 Mahler Conducting Competition. Simultaneously he pursued his career as a pianist, touring with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta in 2010, as solo pianist, conductor’s assistant and double-bass player. In 2014 he conducted the Berlin Staatskapelle at very short notice, and in 2015 replaced the indisposed conductor of the Vienna Philharmonic. He was recently appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and next season becomes Chief Conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
