Project Description

Kolja Blacher – violin

Kolja Blacher was born in Berlin and studied at the Juilliard School of Music with Dorothy DeLay and in Salzburg with Sandor Vegh. He has performed worldwide as a soloist with leading orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, NDR Symphony, Gewandhaus Leipzig and Baltimore Symphony orchestras under conductors such as Petrenko, Jurowski, Kitajenko, Jansons and Pintscher. In recent years he has developed the innovative performance practice, ‘Play-Lead’, a concept in which he leads the orchestra both as soloist and from the concertmaster’s seat. Recent highlights included projects with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, St. Antonio Symphony, and Orchestre de Chambre de Paris. Kolja Blacher was a professor at the Hamburg Hochschule für Musik und Theatre before returning to Berlin where he now lives with his family and teaches at the Hanns Eisler Hochschule für Musik. He plays a 1730 ‘Tritton’ Stradivari, generously on loan from Ms. Kimiko Powers.
