Julian Steckel – cello

Born 1982 into a musical family, Julian Steckel began playing the cello at age 5. Among his teachers were Boris Pergamenschikow, Heinrich Schiff and Antje Weithaas. Since winning 1st Prize at the 2010  Munich International ARD Competition, he has been playing with orchestras including the Bavarian Radio Symphony, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Rotterdam Philharmonie, Russian National State, London Royal Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris and many other orchestras. In 2012 he was awarded the prestigious ECHO prize for his recording of cello concertos by Korngold and Goldschmidt, and Schelomo by Bloch. In 2011 he was appointed Professor at the University of Music and Drama, Rostock, and now holds the same position at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Munich.
