István Várdai – cello
In 2008 István Várdai won the Geneva International Cello Competition, and in 2014 the ARD Competition in Munich. In 2000 he was elected Best Rising Classical Musician in the World (Prix Montblanc). Since his debut in 1997 in The Hague he has performed with great success in New York, London, Paris, Prague, Vienna, Frankfurt, Munich, Geneva, Dublin, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Florence, Tokyo, and Beijing. He has appeared with prestigious orchestras including the Russian National, Mariinsky Theatre, Suisse Romande, and Bavarian Radio Symphony orchestras, and festivals including Santander, St. Petersburg, Radio France Montpellier, Verbier, West Cork, Schwetzigen and Casals festivals. From 2004 he studied at the Liszt Academy, Budapest, and from 2005 at the Music Academy of Vienna. Between 2010-2013 he continued his studies at the Kronberg Academy in Germany where he is now a teaching member of the faculty. István Várdai plays a 1720 Montagnana cello.
