Gérard Caussé – Viola

Gérard Caussé studied first in Toulouse then at the Paris Conservatoire, winning prizes in viola and chamber music. He has appeared with major conductors and orchestras worldwide, and in chamber music with renowned musicians such as Gidon Kremer, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Mischa Maisky, Renaud Capuçon and Nicholas Angelich. A dedicated pedagogue, Gérard Caussé has given acclaimed masterclasses, and is currently Professor of Viola at the Paris Conservatoire and the Queen Sofia College of Madrid. In addition to his vast classical repertoire, Caussé is a champion of contemporary music, a co-founder with Pierre Boulez and solo viola of the Ensemble InterContemporain, commissioning works by major contemporary composers. His discography of more than 60 recordings with EMI, Phillips, Erato and Deutsche Grammophon is widely acclaimed. He plays a 1560 viola by Gasparo da Salo.
