Emmanuel Pahud – flute

Swiss/French Emmanuel Pahud began studying flute at age 6, graduating in 1990 from the Paris Conservatoire (First Prize), and continuing studies with Aurèle Nicolet. He won 1st Prize at the Duino, Kobe and Geneva Competitions, and, aged 23, joined the Berlin Philharmonic as Principal Flute, a position he still holds today. He has appeared at leading international venues, festivals and orchestras as soloist under conductors including Abbado, Barenboim, Boulez, Gergiev, Gardiner, Maazel and Rattle. Pahud’s recital partners include Le Sage, Bronfman, Grimaud, Kovacevich, and jazz with Jacky Terrasson. He was co-founder of the Salon de Provence Festival and performs and records with Les Vents Français. He has commissioned numerous flute works from composers such as Carter, Jarrell and Pintscher. Pahud’s award-winning recordings are exclusively for EMI/Warner Classics. He is a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, Hon RAM of the Royal Academy of Music and a UNICEF Ambassador.
