Clara-Jumi Kang – Violin

Born in Germany into a musical family, Clara-Jumi Kang started violin at age 3, giving her debut concert at age 5. She studied with Valerie Gradov, Zakhar Bron, Dorothy Delay, Nam Un Kim and Christoph Poppen. As a soloist she has performed with the Dresden Kapellsolisten, New Jersey Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Santa Fe Symphony, NHK Symphony, Taipei National Philharmonic, Moscow Philharmonic and Mariinsky orchestras, and with the leading Korean and Japanese orchestras. Recent engagements were with Kremerata Baltica, Moscow Virtuosi, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Berlin Baroque and Cologne Chamber orchestras. She performs regularly at music festivals including the Pyeongchang, Marvao, Hong Kong and Ishikawa festivals. In 2012, Clara was nominated one of Korea’s most promising influential people. She received the 2012 Daewon Music Award for her outstanding concert achievements and the 2014 ‘Kumho Musician of the Year Award’. She plays the ‘ex-Strauss’ 1708 Stradivarius violin, loaned by the Samsung Cultural Foundation Korea.
