Baiba Skride – violin
Born into a musical Latvian family, Baiba Skride studied in Riga and Rostock. In 2001 she won the Queen Elisabeth Competition. She has worked with many leading orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Concertgebouw, Philharmonia Orchestra London and Leipzig Gewandhaus orchestras, under notable conductors such as Eschenbach, Fischer, Paavo Järvi, Neeme Järvi, Petrenko and Nelsons. European highlights this season include debuts with the London Philharmonic, Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai and Simfònica de Barcelona orchestras. Further afield she performs with Yomiuri Nippon Symphony (Meister) and Nagoya Philharmonic (Fischer) orchestras, and returns to the Sydney, Tasmanian and Western Australian Symphony orchestras. She will appear with the Boston Symphony Orchestra for the American premiere of Gubaidulina’s Triple Concerto for violin, cello and bayan. This season she performs in a new piano quartet ensemble with her pianist sister Lauma Skride, Harriet Krijgh and Lise Berthaud at the Schubertiade and Malmö festivals.
