
Julia Deyneka
viola
Born in Russia in 1982, Julia Deyneka studied with Maria Sitkovskaya, Alexander Bobrovsky and Felix Schwartz, graduating with honours from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, and the Rostock Hochschule for Music. She was Principal Viola with the Staatskapelle Berlin orchestra under Daniel Barenboim, and since 2004 has been Principal Viola with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. Prizes include the Nikolai Rubinstein Competition (1997), and the Rovere d'Oro Competition (1997) where she was the youngest competitor. She has appeared as a soloist with the Russian State Orchestra, the Vorpommern Orchestra and the Staatskapelle Berlin. An enthusiastic chamber musician, she has performed at prestigious festivals such as Lockenhaus, Kronberg Academy, Schleswig-Holstein, and Utrecht, with chamber partners such as Janine Jansen, Yuri Bashmet, Gidon Kremer and Daniel Barenboim. Currently she teaches at the Seville Music Academy, Spain, and coaches young violists at the Orchestra Academy of the Staatskapelle Berlin.
